Serving El Paso County

EPCC (El Paso Community College) – Selected Training Provider for Upper Rio. The El Paso County Community College District is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) to award associate degrees. El Paso County Community College District’s mission is to provide educational opportunities and support services to individuals to assist in preparing them to improve their personal quality of life and to contribute to their economically and culturally diverse community.

1. HVAC Technician - Studies basic HVAC and refrigeration controls: troubleshooting of controls components; emphasizes the use of wiring diagrams to analyze high and low voltage circuits; reviews Ohm's law as applied to air conditioning controls and circuits.

2. Construction Engineering Technology/TechnicianCertificate - This training prepares students in site preparation, foundation, form work, brisk masonry, and framing.  Topicsinclude building trades safeyt; construction; tools and construction materials; basic site preparation, basic foundations and form work; brick masonry concepts and tools, basic floor, basic construciton manth, wall and framing methods and systems.  Training will provide project-based classroom instrucion and hands-on- lab work in provided the basic.

3. Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) - The CDL program provides the training to obtain a driver's license required in the United States to operate any type of vehicle for commercial use, or transports quantities of hazardous materials that require warning placards under DOT regulations. or that is designed to transport 16 or more passengers.

4. Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Basics- EMT Basics provide a service in an environment requiring special skills and knowledge in such areas as communications, transportation, and keeping records. They also serve as liaisons with other emergency services. This course provides an introduction to these concepts. Individual orientation to the specific systems and services with which the EMT-Basic will be affiliated is necessary to achieve a full level of competency.

5. Math for the Trades - The goal of this course is to teach students how to read, write, and think mathematically using the language of math.  The course provides comprehensive coverage of essential topics in basic math and introductory Algebra to ensure a strong and solid foundation for the more advanced College Math courses.   It introduces basic concepts and skills of whole numbers, integers, fractions, decimals, ratios, percents, and an introduction to geometry.  The course challenges students to develop critical thinking skills by offering various problem-solving practice exercises and strategies.  Note taking and time management skills are incorporated through-out the course.

6. ESL for Healthcare- Module 1: The Health Care Industry, Module 2 The Human Body, Module 3: Medical Terminology, Module 4: Safe Working Environment

Serving Dimmit, Edwards, Kinney, La Salle, and Maverick Counties

SWTJC (South West Texas Junior College) – Selected Training Provider for Middle Rio Area. Southwest Texas Junior College (SWTJC) is a regional, "open door" institution. It is a comprehensive, public, two-year College serving an 11-county area that stretches from the Texas Hill Country to the US-Mexican border. The main campus is located in Uvalde, a city of 15,000 located in the foothills of Texas Hill Country. Uvalde is approximately 70 miles west of San Antonio and 70 miles east of the Mexican border. Through its programs and services, the college equitably provides higher education opportunities and supports the economic growth of the community. Additional campuses are located in the border cities of Del Rio and Eagle Pass. Instructional facilities are also operated in Crystal City and Pearsall. SWTJC also provides twenty-two school districts with online instruction and distance education links. No other state community college provides educational resources in an area this large.

1. Clinical Medical Assistant - Upon successful completion of course, the student will receive a certificate of completion from Southwest Texas Junior College as having completed the training requirements of the Clinical Medical Assistant.  Graduates will be qualified to take the optional certification examinations for Medical Assisting, Electrocardiography and Phlebotomy offered by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA). This program was designed to provide, thorough didactic and practical instruction, a basic systems overview of the role of the medical assistant in a practical setting.  Didactic lectures cover the theory, anatomy and terminology pertaining to each system.  Practical instruction provides hands-on training in the listed procedures verified through a skills check-off system.

2. Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Basics- EMT Basics provide a service in an environment requiring special skills and knowledge in such areas as communications, transportation, and keeping records.  They also serve as liaisons with other emergency services.  This course provides an introduction to these concepts.  Individual orientation to the specific systems and services with which the EMT-Basic will be affiliated is necessary to achieve a full level of competency.

3. Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) - This course covers the content necessary for mastering the skills for the entry-level tractor-trailer driver. This involves the training to become a second-seat driver who will continue on-the-job training with a trucking firm upon completion of the course. Students graduating from this basic curriculum will still need the additional road experience under the guidance and supervision of an experienced, professional driver before being fully qualified to operate in interstate commerce.

Middle Rio

 

 

Serving Jim Hogg, Webb, and Zapata Counties

LCC (Laredo Community College) – Selected Training Provider for South Texas. 1. Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Basics- EMT Basics provide a service in an environment requiring special skills and knowledge in such areas as communications, transportation, and keeping records. They also serve as liaisons with other emergency services. This course provides an introduction to these concepts. Individual orientation to the specific systems and services with which the EMT-Basic will be affiliated is necessary to achieve a full level of competency.

2. Medical Office Clerk - The Medical Office Clerk Certificate program will help individuals learn the proper techniques for scheduling appointments, greeting patients and verifying insurance information.

3. Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) - This course covers the content necessary for mastering the skills for the entry-level tractor-trailer driver. STC (South Texas College) – Selected Training Provider for Lower Rio Area. South Texas College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award Baccalaureate and Associate degrees. TSTC is the only state-supported technical college system in Texas.  They are efficiently and effectively helping Texas meet the high-tech challenges of today’s global economy in partnership with business and industry, government agencies, and other educational institutions.  Their main focus is helping students gain new job skills, upgrade existing skills or retrain for a new career altogether. In addition the college has seen more of their students focusing on academics in preparation for transfer to 4-year universities.
